The Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce has provided business leadership to meet regional issues for more than 100 years. While the organization had accomplished a great deal, merging with the Charleston Area Alliance allowed it to build a stronger, more effective and efficient organization. The Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce was one of the first ten chambers in the United States and was a founding member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce represents a credible voice on issues affecting our membership. Our goal is to advocate for policies that build a more vibrant community and prosperous economy. Our programs include:
Each year, the Chamber of Commerce hosts our Issues & Eggs Breakfast prior to the West Virginia Legislative session. More than 300 guests attend the event, which provides them the opportunity to discuss issues important to their businesses individually with legislators.
Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce is the voice of our membership before the West Virginia State Legislature. Months prior to the beginning of the legislative session, we begin surveying our members to determine what issues are important to them. Several surveys are required to determine our legislative goals and objectives. We then develop a legislative agenda and white papers to support our positions. Once that legislative agenda is approved, we begin the process of contacting and educating legislators on the needs and interests of our members and our community.
Charleston Chamber of Commerce provides weekly Legislative Updates during the 60-day Legislative Session to over 2500 newsletter members. These updates keep members informed on bills introduced and actions taken by legislators. These e-newsletters also provided links allowing members to read legislation as it was drafted and amended and email links to contact legislators expressing their views.
