Mission Statement

The mission of the Greater Charleston Higher Education Council is to create and sustain a higher education alliance that will educate the public locally, nationally and internationally about the strength of higher education in the Charleston area and to leverage higher education as a major resource in assisting with marketing and research activities that will promote economic development.

UC is a private university of 1,300 students located in Charleston, WV along the Kanawha River. The University offers 20 associate and bachelor degrees and graduate degrees in Pharmacy and Business. UC is ranked as the # 1 University in the United States in How Much Students Learn (Collegiate Learning Assessment 2007).

KVCTC located in Institute, WV, is a comprehensive community and technical college that provides a broad spectrum of associate degrees, certificates, employee training and high demand programs including Power Plant Technology, Nuclear Medicine and Nursing.

WVSU is a historically black university, which has evolved into a fully accessible, racially diverse, and multi-generational institution offering baccalaureate and graduate degrees. The suburban University is located in Institute, West Virginia, eight miles from downtown Charleston.

WVU Health Sciences Center in Charleston, WV is the nation's oldest regional medical education campus, providing premier professional education for health care professionals. The campus houses the schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry, as well as the WVU School of Social Work and the CAMC School of Nurse Anesthesia.

WVU Tech, in Montgomery, WV, offers student-centered, current, and culturally diverse programs. WVU Tech, a division of West Virginia University, is widely known and respected for its variety of baccalaureate degree programs in engineering (civil, chemical, computer, electrical and mechanical), engineering technology (electronic, engineering and industrial), biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, accounting, business management, criminal justice, health services administration, history and government, industrial relations, management information systems, nursing, printing management, psychology, public service administration, sports management and technology management.

Bridgemont CTC, located in Montgomery, WV, offers a variety of two-year degrees in technical fields including engineering technology, printing technology, dental hygiene, computer technology, business/office technology, and allied health. Bridgemont provides academic centers in Beckley and Charleston.

Marshall University’s South Charleston campus offers an array of graduate programs, certificates and degrees in business, education, engineering, nursing and psychology. Students earn their degrees on a conveniently located campus featuring cutting-edge classrooms and an environment conducive to networking and shared learning. Advanced degree programs are offered in evenings and on weekends to minimize disruption to the careers of busy professionals. Beginning in January 2010, undergraduate students will get to experience our South Charleston Campus as we offer afternoon, evening and weekend courses to help fulfill their educational needs.

Through partnerships with local high schools and colleges, a post-secondary planning curriculum and life-changing workshops, College Summit ensures that every student who can make it in college makes it to college.
